About Chandana Rathnayake (PhD.)
At the age of ten, I was ordained as a Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka and from there I went on to live as a monk until my early thirties. After leaving behind two decades of monastic life experience, I transitioned to lay life by becoming a counsellor/psychotherapist. Counselling and psychotherapy training was crucial in my adjustment to life after monastery and I have been leveraging my training and experience to help others manage their own transitions in life. My approach to counselling and psychotherapy is integrative and informed by formal psychology knowledge as well as tacit spiritual and experiential knowledge. It is not entirely possible to capture the experience of therapy without experiencing it but my clients have testified that my approach is innovative, bold, compassionate and transformative. It is always useful to have an initial session with me to experience working with me to decide if I can be a good fit for your needs.
I have a BA in psychology, an MA in counselling and a PhD by research. I am particularly interested in the impact of adverse childhood experience in adult life. I am registered with BACP (382049), NCPS (1138) and a chartered member of BPS (757299).
